Turkish Geriatrics Society is 22 years old

As is already known, a multidisciplinary approach in geriatrics and clinical gerontology is vital because older adults often face multiple medical, psychological, and social challenges that cannot be managed by a single professional.

By combining the expertise of physicians from different specialities this approach provides holistic care that addresses complex health issues, prevents polypharmacy, promotes functional independence, and supports mental and social well-being. It also helps caregivers, guides ethical decision-making, and improves overall outcomes while reducing healthcare costs. Ultimately, it ensures that older adults maintain health, dignity, and quality of life.

On these fundamental grounds, the Turkish Geriatrics Society, the first association established in Turkey in this field, was founded by physicians with professional expertise and accumulated experience in geriatric health.

The Society has consistently preserved its multidisciplinary structure and has made significant contributions to the academic community through regular educational activities, congresses, courses and the publication of scholarly books. A concrete indicator of this is the Turkish Journal of Geriatrics. Which is the official publication of the Turkish Geriatrics Society, the only journal from our country indexed in Web of Science under both SCI-Expanded (SCI-Exp): Science Citation Index Expanded and SSCI: Social Sciences Citation Index.

Furthermore, it has long been engaged in public education by conducting awareness-raising initiatives and producing informative publications for the wider society.
